Mozambique’s road network is to receive international funding for various projects. The 304km road connecting Cuamba and Lichinga in Niassa province will be improved under the plan.
Major highway and bridge projects are commencing in China. Work is starting on a highway project at Baise city in Guangxi Province as well as on the Malantun section of the Xintai-Tai'erzhuang highway in Shandong Province. The Baise city project is being carried out by the CEEG Gezhouba Group and the deal is worth some US$3.94 billion. Plans for massive highway construction projects have been unveiled in China. A 451km highway has been announced that will connect the cities of Yibin an Panzhihua. This is expected to cost as much as US$12 billion, with two firms carrying out the project under the build-operate-transfer model. Plans are in hand for transport expansion in China. This includes major works in the Chinese provinces of Hubei and Hebei as well as the city of Yibin. In Hubei province the infrastructure programme calls for 6,500km of highway to be complete by the end of 2015.
