Mozambique’s road network is to receive international funding for various projects. The 304km road connecting Cuamba and Lichinga in Niassa province will be improved under the plan.
Work is about to get underway on the Maputo-Catembe bridge and the nearby Bela Vista-Boane and Catembe-Ponta do Ouro roads in Maputo province, Mozambique. Cadmiel Muthemba, Mozambique minister of public works and housing, revealed the imminent start date for the project which will include a bridge spanning around 3km, while the roads will have a combined length of 209km.
Mozambique’s new suspension bridge connecting Maputo with Catembe is now open to traffic. The suspension bridge is the longest of its type in Africa, measuring almost 3km-long and surpassing the previous holder of this accolade, the Mapati Bridge in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Financing for a road project in Mozambique is being provided by a bank in India. The Exim Bank of India is proving a line of credit worth some US$147.7 million for the road upgrade project. Mozambique is seeing steady investment in its infrastructure and this latest project will improve transport links in the country.
