Moscow ring road project on track

Plans are in hand in Russia for the rebuilding of the capital's key Moscow Ring Road.

Plans are in hand in Russia for the rebuilding of the capital's key Moscow Ring Road. Design work has yet to be completed and when this is ready, construction will commence and this is expected in late 2011. Widening and upgrading the 109km Moscow Ring Road is expected to cost in the order of US$530 million.

The improved road will provide three lanes of traffic in either direction between Bosa and Kennedy in the city. The work also includes building 12km of cycling facilities. The project is expected to cost in excess of US$139 million and the intended completion date is August 2021.

    Work is being planned on Melbourne's M80 ring road upgrade. This A$2.25 billion project is intended to cut congestion at peak periods, boost safety and reduce journey times for commuters and freight traffic. The project is due for completion in 2013 with some of the work already underway. The work includes an extra lane being installed on either side of the road between Sunshine Avenue and Furlong Road as well as widening of the freeway bridge over Furlong Road.
