Construction work is complete for one key Moroccan motorway, while work is now commencing on others.

The new motorway connecting Tiznit with Dakhla is finished, measuring 1,055km in total. The last section of the route to be completed now connects Tiznit with Guelmin. The road has been built in three stages, with the first linking Laâyoune with Dakhla and having been in use for some years. This new motorway will improve transport between Tiznit and Dakhla in the Western Sahara. Construction of this last stretch of the route did face a number of technical challenges owing to the difficult topology.

Meanwhile, construction is now starting on the upgrade of the Sidi Maarouf junction in Casablanca as well as the improvement of the motorway linking the Mohammedia-West and Ain Harrouda interchanges. These works are costing close to US$109 million and are being managed by a subsidiary of Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM), ADM Projet. The work should be complete within two years.

The country has an extensive programme of transport infrastructure works. In addition to a significant expansion of the motorway network being planned, Morocco has been extending its network of high speed rail routes as well as expanding and improving airport facilities.

A major road programme instigated by King Mohammed VI of Morocco is helping to boost the country's economy and modernise infrastructure. This forms part of a plan to boost tourism, a key part of the country's income from 8 - 10 million. There were less than 300km of motorways existing when King Mohammed VI inherited the throne from his father in July 1999. Since then, the figure has increased to over 1,000km and this is set to almost double in the next five years. A hugely significant highway programme was

Morocco’s Casablanca-Rabat motorway accounts for almost 20% of motorway tolls in the country, generating US$25.16 million for Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) in the first half of 2014, a growth of 4.1% from the previous year. With relatively low maintenance costs (mainly used for widening the road) the Casablanca-Rabat motorway is ADM's most profitable route. The 76km route is travelled by 51,000 vehicles/day, far higher than any other motorway. The Berrechid-Agadir motorway (which includes Berrechid-Marrakesh an
