Morocco has embarked upon an ambitious highway expansion programme that will help boost connectivity and develop the country’s economy. At present, the highway network extends a total of 2,177km according to data from the Ministry of Equipment and Water. The improved highway network will speed transport and also help to boost safety for drivers.

The Société nationale des autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) has a major programme of works underway at present. The area around Casablanca and Rabat is already benefiting from new highway links. Key projects include work for the Tetouan-Chefchaouen expressway via National Road N2, as well as improve transport links between Marrakech and Safi and Marrakech and Kelaa Sraghna.

An expressway is planned for the Draa-Tafilalet region, while there are plans for an improved link between Nador West Med port and the cities of Nador, Driouch, and Kassita. Other new highway links will improve transport connections between Fez and Taounate as well as Tiznit and Dakhla.
