Morocco tender

The Moroccan Government is increasing its investment in roads and highways by 21% from last year. The country intends to spend US$6.32 billion on improving the road network. A further $14.5 billion is expected from private sources and other funding bodies. Work on the El Jadida-Safi highway project will commence in 2012 and is expected to cost $497million. The Moroccan Government is increasing its investment in roads and highways by 21% from last year. The country intends to spend US$6.32 billion on improving the road network. A further $14.5 billion is expected from private sources and other funding bodies. Work on the El Jadida-Safi highway project will commence in 2012 and is expected to cost $497million. Work on the Tit Mellil-Berrechid highway section will cost $152.55 million.

The authorities in Morocco are now assessing 13 bids submitted in the tender for a new highway between El Jadida and Safi. The 141km road will cost some US$640 million to build. The project will be divided into four sections, the 20.6km El Jadida-Jorf Lasfar stretch, the 39.2km Jorf Lasfar-Sidi Smail stretch, the 38.85km Sidi Smail-Oualidia stretch and the 43.5km Oualidia-Safi stretch. The road will include six junctions and a toll barrier. The contract will be divided between the winning operators selected by Société Nationale des 5199 Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM). Financing has yet to be completed but the Fades development fund and 1054 European Investment Bank (EIB) have expressed interest in the project. If the project goes to plan, the work will start in summer 2012 for completion in 2015.
