Mecalac develops crawler rail-road excavator

Mecalac has introduced a rail-road version of its compact 8MCR crawler excavator. The machine has two sets of hydraulically-lowered rail wheels that use the dozer blade circuit to lift it clear of the tracks. The wheels can be set at 1,000mm, 1,435mm and 1,668mm widths, to suit various European rail networks. Activation of the on-rail function automatically turns on all regulatory lighting, limits the working height of the equipment, limits upper structure rotation and activates a load monitoring system.

The machine offers three rail wheel widths, for use on all European networks
2441 Mecalac Group has introduced a rail-road version of its compact 8MCR crawler excavator.

The machine drives through four hydraulic motors, controlled by the excavator’s standard travel system. Maximum speed is 25.6km/h.

The 8MCR Rail-Route weighs in at 9.6 tonnes and is powered by a 60kW 196 Cummins engine.

Mecalac has also unveiled a larger 10MCR crawler excavator, at around 10tonnes operating weight, and shown a prototype of a smaller 6MCR machine, which should make production within the next year.

Liebherr took the wraps off two new tracked excavators at INTERMAT, catching many seasoned industry observers by surprise. The 24tonne R924 replaces the R916, while the heavier (50tonne) R956 succeeds the R954. The upgrade includes Stage IIIB engines featuring diesel particulate filters. The bigger machine can be specified with an extendable (LC-V) undercarriage, which has a 3metre travel width, meaning it can be transported on the roads of some countries without being disassembled.
