Massive highway deal for Wuhan

Construction work is now underway on a massive highway project at Wuhan in China. The US$5.5 billion project is due for completion on 2015 and involves the construction of a four ring highway with a total length of 146km. The highway project is being designed with six traffic lanes in either direction and will have a speed limit of 100km/h.

These projects will be offered under the hybrid annuity model, according to a report in the Economic Times. KPMG has stated that some 21 projects for a total of 1,500km and worth close to a third of that sum will be granted by the Indian Government in the current fiscal year.

    The authorities in Uzbekistan are planning for a series of major road projects in a bid to boost the country’s transport connections and freight handling capabilities. A total of 2,306km of roads will be either built or upgraded in the country by 2015. Priority projects include building 1,008km of roads in the Beyneu-Andijan area, as well as rebuilding a 100km stretch of the Tashkent-Osh road. A total of 517km of roads and 544km of viaducts are to be to be built in 2012 under the plans.

    In India the authorities are approving a further four new highway projects. These will be worth nearly US$535 million in total. The highways are located in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Gujarat and the work involves widening and improving the existing NH34 in West Bengal as well as widening a 123km section of the link from Jetpur-Somnath in Gujarat. Both of these upgraded sections will be widened with two lanes in either direction.
