Malacca state in Malaysia to spend US$196.75mn on road building

The Malacca state government in Malaysia will spend US$196.75 million (MYR 612.30mn) to build and improve roads in the state. The budget will develop 73 road projects that will connect more places within the state.
Malaysia’s West Coast Expressway company has reported that it will inject nearly US$425 million into its West Coast Expressway project.
Total cost of the West Coast Expressway, which will stretch 233km between Banting in Selangor state and Taiping in Perak state on the Malaysian peninsula, is expected to be around $1.56 billion.
The highway will be built over five years as a build-operate-transfer project with a concession of 50 years, The Star newspaper reported in February 2014.
Italian civil engineering company Impregilo, through Poland-based subsidiary Salini Polska, and Polish firm Kobylarnia has been awarded a US$341.2 million (€250mn) contract to build a stretch of Poland’s A1 motorway. The near 75km route will link the towns of Torun and Strykow, and is expected to be completed within a year.
The state government of New South Wales, Australia will ask the private sector to contribute to the funding of the 33km WestConnex road project. While initial sections of the road will be financed by the state government, its following phase will be financed by the private sector. For the project, a total of US$1.66 billion (AUD 1.8bn) will be allocated by the state government over a four-year period. Of the total, $102.22 million (AUD 111mn) will be spent in 2013-2014.
