A major new toll link will boost Indonesia’s transport connections

Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
Iran is investing heavily in boosting its transport infrastructure in a bid to boost its economy. The country has plans to build 5,000km of highways and 10,000km of main roads at present. During the first six months of 2012 the country has opened 850km of new roads to traffic. Iran’s Transportation Infrastructure Construction and Development Company plans to boost the road network of the country by 18,000km in all, as well as to build 11,000km of new railways.
The Canadian Atlantic province of Prince Edward Island will invest around US$170 million over four years to improve roads, including resurfacing 270km of highways.
Projects will include the replacement of 18 bridges, according to a statement from Infrastructure Canada, a federal agency through which the central government will funnel $83.5 million towards the work. The province will provide $86.5 million, noted the agency.

The Ethiopian Government has set out plans for a major programme of road development work to expand the country’s network. In all 58 road projects are being planned, with the programme having been set out by the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA). The plans call for 3,171km of roads to be built in all.
