A major new toll link will boost Indonesia’s transport connections

Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
Plans are in hand for a new toll road in Indonesia. The 300km toll road will link industrial zones in Semarang (Central Java) and Surabaya (East Java) through the Tuban, Lamongan, and Gresik industrial estates in East Java.
Plans are being drawn up in Indonesia for development work to the Route 1 road link connecting Demak to Tuban and Gresik on the island of Java. The road tolling company Waskita Toll Road is working on the plans for the 236km route and will carry out a pre-feasibility study. The project is likely to be handled in partnership between Waskita Toll Road and Jasa Marga.
In Indonesia the country’s government intends to speed up preparations for the massive Trans Sumatra tollroad project. This 2,700km highway link is costing close to US$30 billion and much of the work will be carried out by the state-owned contractor, Hutama Kaya. Construction will commence in late-September 2013 and the project is scheduled to be fully open by 2025. This highway will connect all 10 provinces in Sumatra Island through Aceh-Lampung. Transurban, an Australian manager of highways and developer of urban toll roads, saw toll revenue for the December 2014 quarter increase by more than 63% to US$304 million compared to the same period last year.
For the half-year ended December 2014, toll revenue rose by 63.7% to nearly $602 million, compared to the corresponding period in 2013, a company statement said.
