A major new toll link will boost Indonesia’s transport connections

Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
An important new road link is being built in Algeria that will connect the port of Oran with the country’s East-West motorway. The new road link is expected to open to traffic in 2017. The work is being carried out by an Algerian-Turkish partnership, Engoa-Makyol. Costing US$483 million, the work will take some 30 months to complete. The new road is expected to improve traffic flow to and from the port and reduce congestion in and around Oran as heavy trucks will no longer have to use existing urban routes.
Construction work for Kenya’s 117km Malindi-Sala Gate Road is proceeding on track. The project should be complete in the third quarter of 2019, with one 10km stretch being finished at present. The work is costing US$40.5 million and will improve the C103 connection between Malindi, a centre for Kenya’s tourist sector, with the Tsavo East National Park. Compact equipment manufacturer Wacker Neuson reports an upturn in its business in the third quarter of 2013. This comes despite the difficult economic climate.
