Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
Preliminary data from Germany's Federal Statistics Office, Destatis, reveals an improving road safety situation in the country. The latest figures show that the number of people killed in road traffic crashes in Germany decreased by 283 or 10.3% to 2,466 in the first three quarters of 2013 compared to the same period in the previous year. Vietnam’s impressive road development programme is now gearing up, with a series of major projects scheduled to commence in 2019. Work is starting on three key projects: the My Thuan 2 Bridge; the Cam Lo to La Son highway section; the Cao Bo to Mai Son highway section. All three of these projects will form part of the Eastern North-South Expressway, with the work being overseen by the Ministry of Transport (MOT). German engine manufacturer Deutz Group warned that a third quarter dip in sales revenue and warranty issues concerning its Compact Engines segment meant the company will not meet its previous forecast for the financial year 2014.
A statement from the Cologne-based company said “significant costs will be incurred over the coming years in connection with warranties and goodwill for engines from the DEUTZ Compact Engines segment, primarily relating to engines manufactured in 2011”.
