A major new toll link will boost Indonesia’s transport connections

Algeria’s Public Works Ministry has announced it plans to build new expressway connections to the country’s East-West highway. These expressways will link the Algeria’s ports to the East-West highway, with the aim of reducing congestion and improving traffic flow. A US$373 million expressway measuring 30km long will link the port of Skikda with the East-West highway, with construction work due to start in September 2013. A major new tolled expressway project is now being planned in the Philippines. The proposed NLEx-Cavitex Port Expressway Link will provide a connection between the North Luzon Expressway and Manila-Cavite Expressway. The project to build the link is expected to cost US$1.73 billion, with work being carried out in three stages of 5.7km, 4.8km and 4.6km. One of the most expensive stretches will include a tunnel section. The project is being planned by the Metro Pacific group.
The Toll Road Regulator Agency (TRRA) for Indonesia plans to seal the concession agreement for six Jakarta city toll roads in December 2012, three months later than expected. TRRA officers are said to be studying the proposal documents submitted by Jakarta Tollroad Development. The investment for the project has increased from US$4.21 billion (IDR 40trn) to between IDR42trn-IDR43trn, according to TRRA head, Achmad Gani Gazaly.
The authorities in India have revealed that a series of major road projects are commencing. Plans are in hand for the new Biju Expressway project, which is costing close to US$528 million. The project will deliver a new corridor between Rourkela and Jagdalpur, connecting the four Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawrangpur and Koraput with four districts of western Odisha; Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh.
