Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
The tendering process for a key stretch of highway is underway in Kenya at present, attracting strong interest. The Nepalese Government plans to open a key expressway project to tender. The Ministry of Physical Planning works and Transport Management is inviting bidders to show their interest in the construction of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh-Pathlaiya Terai/Madesh Expressway project. The country’s road expansion programme has a target of 1,852km of new toll roads to be complete by 2019 when the current administration ends its term in office. However only 870km of the planned toll roads have so far been completed. The new toll roads are expected to help develop the country’s economy and also to cut transport costs.
