Major infrastructure funding from the EBRD will boost Serbia’s transport connectivity

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing substantial funding in place to boost Serbia’s transport infrastructure. The EBRD's investments in Serbia for the 2000-2011 period now total some €3 billion for over 180 projects. For 2012 the EBRD is continuing its financial support of Serbia’s infrastructure, with the Corridor 10 highway being one of the key targets.

    Construction will commence on the new connection from Kosovo’s capital Pristina to Nis in Serbia. The first stretch of the highway to be built will be the 77km section from Nis to Merdare in Serbia. The project is expected to cost €212 million, with a portion of the funding at least being provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB).     In Romania the road authorities have signed a deal for the construction of a 22km stretch of highway in a contract worth €91 million. The Portuguese contractor Monte Adriano will construct the section linking Nadlac with Pecica. Romania has pledged to improve and expand its highway network with the construction of new links, and much of the funding for its highway plans has been provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
