Major Bulgarian highway on track for completion

Work on the new Trakiya Highway in Bulgaria is on track, with some 70km already open to traffic. When it is complete, the new highway will link Karnobat and Burgas on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. The final section of the Trakiya Highway, Lot 4, is due for completion in February 2013 and openin this stretch will allow the entire route to be used, reducing travel times between capital Sofia and Burgas.

    In Uganda planning is underway for the upgrade of the Kampala-Jinja route. Preparations are being made for a new tolled highway connecting with capital Kampala. The upgrade will see the route being widened with four lanes for much of the length, six lanes on the approach to Kampala and up to eight lanes where vehicle densities will be heaviest to carry the capital’s traffic. The construction work is expected to cost some US$74 million and the new link will connect with the existing Kampala-Entebbe highway.

    The new elevated motorway connecting Mexico City ring road with Mexico-Cuernavaca motorway is due for completion in March 2016. The Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) originally said that the link would be completed by December 31st 2015. The delays have been attributed to the complication in coordinating operations between the construction of a 5km-stretch built by SCT and the 2km section built by Mexico City’s Government.
