Huyton Asphalt in Liverpool in the UK is a long time customer for ABG asphalt pavers

Huyton Asphalt Ltd. has a unique place in the history of ABG Pavers and something we believe to be unique in the world.

The Company has purchased many of each models over the years. In fact, it is the only known company in the world to still own and operate every wheeled paver manufactured by ABG in Hameln over the last 25 years. Testimony to both the robust build of the brand but also the care that Huyton Asphalt take care of their fleet.

Huyton Asphalts ownership trend continued recently with the acquisition of four more ABG pavers. Being the first in the world to purchase under the ownership of Ammann.

The company now has purchased every model of ABG wheeled paver manufactured in the last 25 years. Huyton Asphalt currently have 5 tracked pavers in fleet as well.

All the pavers are still going strong , said James Blennerhassett, managing director of Huyton asphalt, located in the Liverpool City Region, United Kingdom

“Back-up and support is critical and has been a large part of our decision to stay with the brand,” he said. “Having Ammann now owning ABG has played an important part in the recent purchase of four new pavers this year.”

Huyton Asphalt has owned Ammann machines for around 20 years. “Our loyalty to the products has been driven by the people associated with them,” said Blennerhassett. “My father, Franny Blennerhassett, dealt with John Finn since 1978 and then Ammann when Pavemac became their UK distributor. Over the years, even with ABG ownership changing, we have stayed true to the Brand and it is good to see Ammann becoming the new owners.”

The early pavers, including the Ammann 270 and Ammann 350, has suited the versatility of Huyton Asphalt’s job requirements. “Three of the Ammann 270s and three of the Ammann 350s are still in operation” Blennerhassett said. “Over the years we have tried every paver manufacturer model, and for me, the ABG Titan is the best large paver on the market. It is good to see Ammann bring back the Titan name.”

“Our loyalty and affiliation to ABG is due to the relationships we have had with the people,” he said. “They ultimately give us the confidence in the brand.”

“It is incredibly important to have knowledgeable and experienced people familiar with the complexities of paving and to be able to talk to them. Having access to people who understand our business like Ammann and the ABG specialist team and also their UK Dealer Pavemac,  makes all the difference and has meant we have stayed with ABG for 25 years.”

Huyton Asphalt’s business has grown significantly over the years and their choice of manufacturer is reflected in the quality of the paving and the hard work. The company has set high standards for themselves which benefit their customers. Founded in 1970, they are celebrating their 55th anniversary in 2025.

“Huyton Asphalt takes pride in being innovators in the industry, with a commitment to new technologies,” Blennerhassett said. “Dealing with high value and perishable materials demands reliability and working within time pressures. Having confidence in the backup and support is crucial.”

Innovation has been at the forefront of Huyton Asphalt. This is already being delivered with the Innovation HALO suite of products which have a positive impact and use low carbon materials and low emission equipment. Huyton Asphalt constantly drives toward sustainability and carbon reduction. One of the four new machines is a tracked ABG 4820, which is liveried in the distinctive HALO colours and also has a number of features such as HVO and electrically operated functions. The first job it worked on was delivering the largest low carbon road load in the Liverpool City region.

“We certainly appreciate the long partnership between Huyton Asphalt and ABG, and we look forward to continuing that alliance,” said Bernd Holz, Executive VP of Ammann ABG. “A customer as valued as Huyton Asphalt deserves only the best products and services on the market.”
