Using electronic engine management, turbocharging and EGR, Lombardini’s KDI engine series delivers high power density and efficiency without needing a DPF

2277 Lombardini, part of the 2278 Kohler Group, has launched a new range of engines that meet forthcoming emissions regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter.

The KDI series – Kohler Direct Injection – includes 1.9-litre three-cylinder, and four cylinder 2.5 and 3.4 litre capacity engines.

The latter four-cylinder engine represents a new sector for the firm and gives it a high power density with 100kW of power. Previously, the firm’s engine range stopped at 60kW and 2.2 litres capacity.

“Customers will have the opportunity to downsize from much larger engines to our 3.4 litre turbo diesel and still generate high power levels,” said Nino De Giglio, Lombardini market research manager.

Using common rail injection pressures up to 2,000 bar, EGR, electronic engine management and turbocharging, the KDI series has the potential to deliver lower operating costs from higher efficiency and longer servicing intervals.

Fuel consumption is reduced by 15% says Lombardini, though the cost of adopting this latest technology is likely to see these new engines costing up to 20% more than their predecessors.

While lift heights remain unchanged from 10-13m, increased lift capacities can now be found across Liebherr’s four-model telehandler range, which now offers 4.1 and 5 tonne lift capabilities. And the range has been rebadged to reflect the new muscle now available. It means models numbers become TL 441-10, TL 441-13, TL 451-10 and TL 451-13. All models use a four-cylinder turbocharged engine rated at 74kW, with a hydrostatic transmission taking care of drive to all four wheels. Three steering modes remain –

Volvo latest pavers, the P7820C ABG and P8820C ABG, get independent travel drives and electronic traction control to maintain productivity on slopes and around corners. The P8820C ABG tracked paver from Volvo Construction Equipment can pave widths up to 13metres, while the P7820C ABG paves up to 11metres. Expect up to 900tonnes/hour from the smaller paver and up to 1,000tonnes/hour from the larger machine. Power comes from Volvo’s latest D8 stage IIIB emissions compliant six-cylinder, seven-litre engine. Th
