LiuGong expands operations

Chinese firm LiuGong is opening its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.

Chinese firm 269 LiuGong is opening its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore. The facility will support sales, technical support for Asia Pacific, excluding China. The facility is also the firm's first spare parts distribution centre for Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. "A significant number of our customers are based in the Asia Pacific region, and we expect a substantial per cent of our business to flow through this centre in the next few years," said Chairman Wang Xiaohua, Chairman, Guangxi LiuGong Machinery corporation. LiuGong expects its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore to generate more than US$50 million in revenues in the first year of operations, with expected annual growth rates of 30%. The office, which will serve Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and other islands in Pacific.

Darren Fitch, director for road machinery for the EMEA region within Volvo CE said, “The road construction sector has been far less cyclical than other construction markets.” The global market for road machinery is healthy at present and he said, “We’re having a good year.”

    ContiTech generated new company record sales of €3.6 billion in 2011. It represented a 16% rise for the Hanover, Germany-based firm on its previous year sales of €3.1billion. The all-time sales high had a positive effect on recruitment as ContiTech hired around 1,400 new staff at locations around the world in 2011 - with 430 of the new jobs in Germany.

    Global US infrastructure firm Jacobs Engineering Group and one of its main rivals, CH2M, are to merge under a US$3.27 billion deal. In a written statement, Jacobs said it will acquire all of the outstanding shares of CH2M in a cash and stock transaction, including around $416 million of CH2M debt. CH2M had global revenue in the past 12 months of around $4.4 billion and about 20,000 employees. Its contracts are in the water, transportation, environmental and nuclear sectors.
