Lithuania-Belarus connection

The feasibility of a new border link from Lithuania to Belarus is being examined at present. The road would be an extension of the existing Klaipeda-Visaginas link.

The feasibility of a new border link from Lithuania to Belarus is being examined at present. The road would be an extension of the existing Klaipeda-Visaginas link. Should the plans go ahead, the road from Visaginas would be extended to the Papelekis border checkpoint in Svencionys, some 90km from Vilnius.

The current route is known for its traffic delays, handling around 51,000 vehicles/day. The new route would feature a 3.2km section of flyover and the estimated cost is US$400 million. Should the project get the go ahead, work would commence in early 2021 and should take around two years to complete.
