Liebherr updates its R922 crawler excavator with more power
Liebherr is launching a revised R922 crawler excavator, replacing the previous R906 and joining the R918 and R926 in the company’s medium weight line-up. Powered by a Stage IIIB Liebherr diesel engine, developing 105kW (143hp), the R922 weighs in at 22 tonnes and designed as a general purpose civils machine. Using a Dual Circuit Positive Control hydraulic system, the excavator is said to consume less energy than previous models, resulting in fuel savings for the customer. Liebherr launching a revised R922 crawler excavator
718 Liebherr is launching a revised R922 crawler excavator, replacing the previous R906 and joining the R918 and R926 in the company’s medium weight line-up. Powered by a Stage IIIB Liebherr diesel engine, developing 105kW (143hp), the R922 weighs in at 22 tonnes and designed as a general purpose civils machine. Using a Dual Circuit Positive Control hydraulic system, the excavator is said to consume less energy than previous models, resulting in fuel savings for the customer. The machine on show will be exhibited with a 2.7m dipper arm and LC undercarriage. However even with 600mm track pads the R922 does not exceed the 3.0m overall width for road transport in Europe.

Liebherr has added a second model to its articulated hauler range with the TA240. The 40 tonne capacity truck has a 27m3 body and a 6x6 driveline. Power comes from a 16.2 litre Stage IIIB Liebherr V8 diesel engine delivering 350kW (476hp). This enables the truck to reach maximum speeds of up to 57km/h. A high performance retarder helps to bring the truck to a halt and can be preselected, with both the engine brake and the retarder working as soon as the driver lifts their foot from the throttle pedal. Liebherr has developed a hybrid drive system for its HS8300HD heavy duty cycle crawler crane. The 350 tonne machine generates electrical power from its hydraulic free-fall winches, which offer up to 50 tonnes of line pull. Under this Pactronic system surplus energy is stored in a hydraulic accumulator and regenerated to assist the engine, reducing fuel consumption. This reuse of energy also cuts emissions from the machine.
