Liebherr springs surprise for INTERMAT visitors

Liebherr took the wraps off two new tracked excavators at INTERMAT, catching many seasoned industry observers by surprise. The 24tonne R924 replaces the R916, while the heavier (50tonne) R956 succeeds the R954. The upgrade includes Stage IIIB engines featuring diesel particulate filters. The bigger machine can be specified with an extendable (LC-V) undercarriage, which has a 3metre travel width, meaning it can be transported on the roads of some countries without being disassembled.

Liebherr kept the new diggers a secret for INTERMAT surprise
718 Liebherr took the wraps off two new tracked excavators at INTERMAT, catching many seasoned industry observers by surprise.

Options include a two-piece boom and a front shovel configuration. A new and bigger cab is fitted with an air-sprung seat and a 175mm touchscreeen, which also doubles as a display for the rear view camera.

The smaller R924 also gets a new ROPS/FOPS cab, which comes with air conditioning as standard and the new touchscreen, which has ‘intuitive operation’.

It has an X shape chassis with a self-cleaning undercarriage while a redesigned uppercarriage makes for safer maintenance with more service points accessible from ground level.
