Leipzig venue for Forum 2009

The International Transport Forum has announced plans for Forum 2009 to be held in Leipzig on 26-29 May, 2009 on the theme of ‘Transport for a Global Economy: New Challenges and Opportunities.’ At the forum, Ministers of Transport will be meeting with key leaders from industry, the research sector and civil society to discuss the challenges of globalisation for the transport sector of trade and consider what transport can do to respond to the needs for global economic and social development today.

The 1102 International Transport Forum has announced plans for Forum 2009 to be held in Leipzig on 26-29 May, 2009 on the theme of ‘Transport for a Global Economy: New Challenges and Opportunities.’

At the forum, Ministers of Transport will be meeting with key leaders from industry, the research sector and civil society to discuss the challenges of globalisation for the transport sector of trade and consider what transport can do to respond to the needs for global economic and social development today.

Some key issues to be discussed include what the present economic crisis means for globalisation and what impact high transport costs have on the economy and how the global credit crunch will affect transport investment programmes. The question of a further liberalisation in the transport sector of trade facilitation and better cooperation across borders in order to meet the needs of a steadily globalising economy needs to be discussed as well as improvements of the transport organisation and logistics across the international supply chain with a specific accent on the growing importance of multimodal responses to globalisation.

The Forum will also host an on-site exhibition as a showcase of best practices for industry, transport and logistics firms.

A joint International Transport Forum-CLECAT-FIATA Prize for Innovation in Meeting the Transport and Supply Chain Challenges of Globalisation will be awarded, as will a Young Researcher Award.
