Key Russian highway to be reconstructed

The tender process is now open for work to rebuild a key highway connection linking St Petersburg with Murmansk in Russia. Kola state enterprise is managing the tender process. The section of the highway in question runs from St Petersburg to Petrozavodsk via Priozersk and Sortavala. The work is expected to cost some US$182.6 million and to require up to 1,262 days to carry out. The tender result will be revealed on 13 May 2013.

    The Egyptian Government is opening the tender process for the Rod el Farag highway in July 2012. The highway project is expected to cost US$1 billion to construct and will be carried out in two stages. One section will run from Alexandria Desert Road to the Cairo Ring Road. Meanwhile the second section will run from the Cairo Ring Road to the eastern side of the Nile-Shoubra area and the Al Ismailia Canal Road.

    Construction is still underway on Russia’s key highway project, the M11 route connecting Moscow with St Petersburg. The seventh stage of the project, measuring 103km, is now opening for traffic. Building this seventh stage involved laying 7.6 million m2 of asphalt and using 13 million m3 of sand. The eighth stage of the M11 highway will connect with the St Petersburg Ring Road and is around 85% complete. Should work continue to plan, the entire M11 highway will open to traffic in October 2019.

    Odebrecht has been awarded a concession for Brazil’s important BR-163 federal highway route. The 851km section of highway runs through Mato Grosso state and the deal is worth some US$2 billion, according to a report by Business News Americas. As part of its contract, Odebrecht will have to widen a 454km stretch of the route within five years and is also required to build nine new toll booths.
