Construction work is now pushing ahead on key highway connections in China's Shaanxi Province. One of the major projects is for a 79km highway that will link Jia County with Yulin in a deal worth some US$826 million. The project is being managed under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model.

  • Ecuador road widening project planned

    A road widening project worth US$134.3 million is now going ahead in Ecuador. The road connecting Aloag with Santo Domingo is being improved along a 100km stretch, widening the route so that it will feature two lanes in either direction instead of the single lane in either direction at present. This will boost the transport connection between Pichincha Province and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas Province. The contract was originally awarded in 2015 but stalled in 2017 following a disagreement over tolling.

    Contractor Sibmost is to handle construction work for the Khabarovsk Bypass project. The new road will provide a link between the A-370 Ussuri, R-297 Amur and A-375 Vostok highways. With the construction of the Amur River bridge crossing also in hand, the new link will help provide improved transport between Russia and China.   • Odebrecht wins Brazilian highway concession

    Odebrecht has been awarded a concession for Brazil’s important BR-163 federal highway route. The 851km section of highway runs through Mato Grosso state and the deal is worth some US$2 billion, according to a report by Business News Americas. As part of its contract, Odebrecht will have to widen a 454km stretch of the route within five years and is also required to build nine new toll booths.
