Improvements are planned for the road linking the Mombasa International Airport with the Kisumu-Kakamega-Webuye-Kitale road. A loan worth US$300 million has been approved by the 2332 World Bank.
A series of road improvements and investments will improve connections in Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The World Bank is offered the Ugandan Government a loan of US$400 million to rebuild roads in Kamdini and Tororo-Soroti-Lira. This funding will allow contractors to carry out road maintenance on the roads for 7-10 years, with work scheduled to start in 18 months.

Plans are now being drawn up for a series of projects that will form part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Four road projects worth over US$3.32 billion have been added to the CPEC programme. The Chinese Government is now in agreement with the plans for the CPEC. One of the new roads being built will run from Naukundi, through Mashkel and to Panjgur. The road will join National highway N-40 with CPEC Route N-85, and the Zhob-Kuchlak route. The Ugandan Government has unveiled plans to improve its road connections with its northern neighbour South Sudan. To fund the construction project, the Ugandan Government has been seeking a loan worth US$210 million from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
