Improvements are planned for the road linking the Mombasa International Airport with the Kisumu-Kakamega-Webuye-Kitale road. A loan worth US$300 million has been approved by the 2332 World Bank.
The World Bank is reducing its financing projects in Ukraine until 2016. The World Bank and the Indian state of Kerala's Department of Economic Affairs have signed a loan agreement worth US$215.1 million (INR 11.66bn) to finance the second phase of the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP). In its 2013/2014 budget, Kerala allocated $51.65 million (INR 2.8bn) for the implementation of the second phase of KSTP. In the second phase, about $443.3 million (INR 24.03bn) will be spent to develop 367km of state highways spread over eight corridors built to international standards.
A loan from the World Bank will help pay for a series of road upgrades across Nepal. The US$133 million loan will be directed towards improving 12,412km of Nepal’s road network, including both major highways and secondary link roads. Also benefiting from the loan will be many of Nepal’s bridges. Maintenance work will be carried out to 90 bridges and safety measures will be improved on 180 bridges. Construction work will be completed on 92 bridges being built at present, while a further 115 existing bridges
The road linking Uganda with Sudan is being rebuilt with loans coming from the Japanese Government and the US-based World Bank. The cost of improving the road between Gulu and Atiak in Uganda and Nimule in Sudan is expected to be around US$245 million.
