Improvements are planned for the road linking the Mombasa International Airport with the Kisumu-Kakamega-Webuye-Kitale road. A loan worth US$300 million has been approved by the 2332 World Bank.
A series of road upgrades and safety improvements will be introduced across the network in Ghana. In all US$154 million will be provided in a loan from the World Bank Group's International Development Association (IDA) for a series of road projects. The IDA loan has a 20-year repayment period. The improvement programme calls for improvements and upgrades to 370km of roads in the north of Ghana. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a loan worth €50 million to help with the rehabilitation of regional and local roads as well as the modernisation and improvement of transport infrastructure in Albania.
This EBRD loan will be used to improve to 500km of roads in rural areas of Albania. The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan for the same amount for the project. The project is also supported by €33 million in grant financing from the European Commission
The World Bank is providingUS$99 million in funding to Nepal for a major transport project. The funding will come in the form of loans and grant assistance and is aimed at the Nepal-India Regional Trade and Transport Project (NIRTTP). This project includes the improvements to the Birgunj-Kathmandu corridor as well as the construction of a series of upgrades of the existing Narayanghat-Mugling road.
