Key investments for major link in Jalisco State, Mexico

An investment of US$ 646 million will improve sections of road in Mexico’s Jalisco State, as well as other links. A 30km road connecting with Tepic will be upgraded, along with 169km of highway and 111km of another road. Mexican firm IDEAL is investing in the links.

    Five major highway maintenance contracts will be opened to tender in Mexico shortly. In all the contracts will cover 2,015km of roads while the work is expected to cost US$727 million in all. Key road links to be improved include the 300km Zacatecas-Norponiente road, the 430km road connecting Zacatecas with Sur, the 410km road from Jalisco to Centro and the 450km road concession between Jalisco and Oriente.     The Mexican authorities will invest an additional US$362 million to complete the Durango-Mazatlan highway. The project has taken 12 years to reach fruition and has included many major technical challenges. The Mexican Government's Communications and Transport Secretariat has revealed that the final cost of the project is 173% over budget and it is also 10 months behind schedule. Meanwhile plans are moving forward for a new highway link that will connect Mexico to Guatemala as well as El Salvador.

  • Mexico: Acapulco’s Escenica Alterna tunnel to open in 2017
    June 6, 2016
    Construction of the Escenica Alterna tunnel in the Mexican resort port city of Acapulco is expected to be finished by June 2017. Work started on the 3.1km tunnel in 2013 with completion originally scheduled for October 2015. But financial problems delayed the US$200 million project which is now around three-quarters complete. Work by the contractor IDEAL - part of conglomerate Grupo Carso - includes construction of an elevated road connecting tunnel with Metlapil motorway.
