Funding from Japan is helping speed construction of a new bypass in Kenya. The US$190 million grant from the 2416 Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) will be used for the project to build the 17.5km Southern bypass for the South Coast of Mombasa. 2639 Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is managing the project, which forms part of the Vision 2030 programme of works for Kenya. Alignment considerations are being presented by surveyors working for Jica and KeNHA together with the layout of the final design. The project, which includes a bridge over Mwache creek, is also called the Dongo Kundu bypass. The new link will boost trade between Mombasa and neighbouring Tanzania.
