Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin said authorities would allocate US$263.14million to repair the city’s road network in 2012, compared to a total of $197.66million spent over the previous five years.
Indonesia’s Government is setting a US$20 billion budget for transport and energy sector development. The Indonesian Government plans to build 559km of new roads as part of a new transport infrastructure programme.
Indonesia’s capital Jakarta faces a growing problem due to severe traffic congestion, which is particularly intense at peak periods. Increasing vehicle numbers in the city mean that the existing traffic problem is fast getting worse. The authorities are looking at policies to address the issue.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) looks likely to grant Poland a loan of €1.6 billion to carry out several key infrastructure projects. Some of the money will be used to finance the A2 highway from Lodz to Warsaw; Warsaw's southern ring road and a 50km section of the A4 highway to link with Germany.
The German Government's new transport investment strategy will see increased spending until 2030. The Ministry for Transport says that the emphasis will be on renovating existing infrastructure, instead of building new projects. Around 70% of investment will be for renovation and improvement projects, compared to 56% in the previous transport strategy. The plan is worth a total of €264.5 billion, an increase of €91 billion over the previous plan, with 49.4% targeted at road projects, 41.3% for rail and 9.3%
