Kazan allocated US$263.14mn road repair budget for 2012

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin said authorities would allocate US$263.14million to repair the city’s road network in 2012, compared to a total of $197.66million spent over the previous five years.

    The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to grant Tajikistan US$100 million towards reconstruction of the highway Penjikent - Aini – the Uzbekistan border. The total project is valued at $136 million. Tajikistan's government will provide US$22 million. In addition, OPEC will give a 20-year $14 million loan with a 2.5% interest rate.

    Two radio presenters at the RPR1 station in Rheinland Pfalz, Germany have taken action to repair potholes in their area. The presenters were so disgusted by the poor state of the local roads that appeared following bad weather conditions that they ran a competition to locate the biggest pothole in the area. The winning pothole was then repaired by the two presenters live on air during their morning show, with the event attended by the local mayor who also presented his congratulations to the pair.
