In France an unusual cycle race has been held, for prisoners. Some 200 felons have been allowed out of the prison walls to race bicycles around the country, while under close watch from prison guards. This 2,300km race is no easy saunter around the park however, starting in the historic city of Lille, passing through 17 towns along the way and finishing in capital Paris. The organisers of Intertraffic India 2013 expect substantial growth both in exhibitors and attendees over the previous event, held in 2011. Intertraffic India was launched in 2011 with 85 exhibitors, of which 60% were international firms and the show attracted 3,000 visitors. Up to 35 fixed and five mobile radar devices are expected to be installed on Luxembourg’s roads in 2014 in order to boost safety.
Jeannot Mersch, president of the association for victims to the road (AVR), has spoken out in favour of the introduction of more road safety technology. Mersch said that Luxembourg needs a sustainable traffic security system. In 2013 43 people were killed in Luxembourg road traffic accidents.
Support for Stockholm's congestion charge has risen to a record high, a poll by the Centre for Transport Studies (CTS) has shown. Some 67 per cent of the residents in greater Stockholm that have an opinion on the issue would vote in favour of the charge should the referendum be held today while 82 per cent would vote in favour of the charge if all incomes were used to develop public transport.
