Italy's five-year infrastructure plan

A five-year plan for infrastructure development is being called for in Italy. Italian banking group Intesa Sanpaolo says that €250 billion of infrastructure work, including road and airport improvements, will help boost the country’s economy. The bank says that private sources could provide much of the funding.

    Work on the Taveta-Voi road link connecting Kenya and Tanzania is now being planned. The African Development Bank is providing a loan worth US$113 million. The work includes widening and improving a 42km bypass at Arusha and upgrades to a 115km section of road between Holili and Arusha. This package of works is due for completion by 2018.     The authorities in Uzbekistan are planning for a series of major road projects in a bid to boost the country’s transport connections and freight handling capabilities. A total of 2,306km of roads will be either built or upgraded in the country by 2015. Priority projects include building 1,008km of roads in the Beyneu-Andijan area, as well as rebuilding a 100km stretch of the Tashkent-Osh road.
