Production output grew 5% in 2010 according to Italy's construction equipment manufacturing association, 2539 Unacea. The provisional data suggested that this business segment was worth nearly €2 billion euros, 53% of which destined to the production of earthmoving machines and 47% to other construction machines. Italy's construction equipment output was halved in 2009 compared with the previous year but grew 16% in 2010. Machine exports hit 65% in 2010, compared to 55% in 2009. Italy's home market remains stagnant and exports have been a key to the sector's resurgence but there are concerns, particularly with the current instability in North Africa, which has been a strong market for Italian manufacturers in recent years.
