IsDB funding for Mali Gaya-Lebekere link

IsDB - Islamic Development Bank - approves financing for the 71km Mali-Gadalougue route that will link Mali with Senegal.

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will provide US$153.5 million for second-phase development of Mali’s 284km link to southern Senegal.

According to a report in the magazine Construct Africa, the project is expected to facilitate transport on the Mali-Gaya-Lebekere axis and the border with Senegal. The 71km Mali-Gadalougue road will be divided into two lots, with Lot 4 covering the 38km Mali-Lebekere section and Lot 5 covering the 33km Lebekere-Gadalougue road.

Construct Africa also noted that work began in late July on phase one of the cross-border scheme, which covers the 107km Labe-Mali road. The IsDB approved financing of US$171.9 million the Labe-Mali section in late 2021.

Construction is split into three lots, with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) working on Lot 1, the 38km Labe-Sarekaly section, while China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is executing Lot 2, the 31km between Sarekaly and Yembering. Henan China has Lot 3, 38km from Yembering to Mali section.

The Labe-Mali project will facilitate access to Guinea’s port of Conakry.
