1201 IRF Geneva has carried out a successful webinar on World Road Statistics for Beginners - Techniques and Methods. Participants from all over the world joined in to the key messages and techniques from this webinar. This addressed the core characteristics of raw data brought together in the annual World Road Statistics report, which is one of IRF’s flagship projects. Published since 1964, this publication remains the single comprehensive source of data for the international road, traffic and transport sectors. The main questions addressed during the webinar included: Why collecting and analysis data is key; the statistics and econometric techniques to identify and fit road and transport data; modelling methods. Throughout the presentation, simple methodologies, elementary econometric techniques and examples were introduced to help the webinar participants understand the key elements to consider when analysing data. ZF used bauma 2013 to show the next stage of development for its cPower continuously variable transmission (CVT). By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.
Scania will be showing both Euro 6 engines for its on-highway truck range and Stage IIB/Tier 4 Final powerplants for off-highway use. The company will use both exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to meet the coming regulations, as with its current Stage IIIB solution. This means the fitting of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) but no requirement for a DPF. Kohler-owned Lombardini, a leading diesel engine manufacturer up to 50 kW, is since 2007 has launched KDI - the first innovative diesel engine said to be compliant with new TIER4Final/STAGE3B emission regulations without using the DPF (diesel particulate filter). Compactness, performance, lowest fuel consumption and longest service intervals are also said by Lombardini to make the KDI the best engine in its class.
Swedish bucket tooth, cutting edge and bucket protection producer Combi Wear Parts will introduce adapters, teeth and lip shrouds for excavator buckets in the 200-250 tonne class. Designed for cutting edges of both 120mm and 140mm lip thickness , the adapters are built to work with 60-90kg teeth. The firm has also applied for a patent for a new locking mechanism that will feature on its ProClaws tooth system.
