1201 IRF Geneva has carried out a successful webinar on World Road Statistics for Beginners - Techniques and Methods. Participants from all over the world joined in to the key messages and techniques from this webinar. This addressed the core characteristics of raw data brought together in the annual World Road Statistics report, which is one of IRF’s flagship projects. Published since 1964, this publication remains the single comprehensive source of data for the international road, traffic and transport sectors. The main questions addressed during the webinar included: Why collecting and analysis data is key; the statistics and econometric techniques to identify and fit road and transport data; modelling methods. Throughout the presentation, simple methodologies, elementary econometric techniques and examples were introduced to help the webinar participants understand the key elements to consider when analysing data. Liebherr has developed a hybrid drive system for its HS8300HD heavy duty cycle crawler crane. The 350 tonne machine generates electrical power from its hydraulic free-fall winches, which offer up to 50 tonnes of line pull. Under this Pactronic system surplus energy is stored in a hydraulic accumulator and regenerated to assist the engine, reducing fuel consumption. This reuse of energy also cuts emissions from the machine.
Bell Equipment is working on its biggest ever truck, which will offer a capacity of 55tonnes. A launch date has not yet been revealed for the hauler and technical details have yet to be revealed, however the machine will have a 4x4 drive system. Marc Schürmann managing director of Bell Equipment Europe said prototype testing for the machine will commence later this year. He said “Our competitors will be the smaller class of rigid haulers,” and he added that the aim is to offer lower fuel consumption and cap
Faresin Industries has expanded its telescopic handler range with the addition of the FH8.40 and the rotating Storm 22.45 evo. The FH8.40 sits in the range between the established FH7.45 and the FH9.30. The machine has a capacity of 4tonnes with a maximum lift height of 8m. Higher up the lifting scale, the Storm 22.45 rotating handler can manage up to 45tonne lifts, with a maximum height of 22m.
German company Pfreundt, a provider of weighing systems, is presenting a prototype for a new wheeled loader weighing system, which has initially been outfitted for markets in developing countries, for intralogistics and for agriculture and forestry. The new scale’s features include connection to the new Pfreundt web portal, self-assembly and calibration by dealers or customers, and a touch-screen with a simple, intuitive interface, similar to smartphones. Market launch is scheduled for 2014.
