IRF announces 2012 GRAA Winners

RSSOrganisations behind the Rio de Janeiro's RJ122 project; the Kosovo Motorway project; and New York City's State-of-the-Art ITS Infrastructure Deployment Program were among the winners of the 713 International Road Federation’s (IRF) 2012 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) competition.

This year's awards, whose winners were announced by IRF chairman and mayor of Riyadh, H.E Abdullah A. Al-Mogbel, honour nine projects from countries across the globe, each leading the way in innovation and excellence in its respective area of the road industry.

Patrick Sankey, president and chief executive of IRF, said: “For the past twelve years, our Awards program has constituted an industry reference for innovators across the globe. In these times of persisting economic uncertainty, our sector has once more demonstrated that it is a source of cutting edge solutions that makes a difference in our communities".

The winners of the 2012 GRAA competition are:

Winner: Victoria Park Alliance for the Victoria Park Tunnel (Australia)

Category: Design

Winners: HDR, T.Y. Lin International & 6726 Jacobs Engineering for the Hoover Dam Bypass (USA)

Category: Environmental Mitigation

Winner: 6725 New Zealand Transit Agency for the Chemical De-icing Environmental Risk Management project (New Zealand)

Category: Excellence in Project Finance & Economics

Winner: Minnesota DOT for "Better Roads for a Better Minnesota" Infrastructure Improvement Program (USA)

Category: Maintenance Management

Winner: State of Rio de Janeiro for the State of Rio de Janeiro's RJ122 project (Brazil)
 

Category: Program Management

Winner: 4138 Bechtel 5252 Enka for the Kosovo Motorway project (Kosovo)

Category: Traffic Management and ITS

Winners: 4025 New York City Department of Transportation & 5303 TransCore for New York City's State-of-the-Art ITS Infrastructure Deployment Program (USA)

Category: Quality Management

Winners: 2698 Delcan Inc. & Maryland DOT for the Maryland Intercounty Connector project (USA)

Category: Road Safety

Winner: The 2791 Inter-American Development Bank and the 2392 Spanish Road Association for the Initiative for Road Safety in Latin America and the Caribbean

Category: Technology, Equipment & Manufacturing

Winner: 6724 Mobile Barriers for the MBT-1 (USA)

Winners of 2012 GRAAs will be presented to hundreds of high-level government officials, top executives, and other road industry professionals at IRF's Annual Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the 2774 Transportation Research Board's annual meeting, 13-17 January 2013 in Washington DC.
