Iranian investment in infrastructure

Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has announced plans to develop over 3,500km of highways in the country. Funding is being provided by some US$570 million worth of bonds sold in the country during February 2013. Key highway links have been set out for construction, along with upgraded to existing road links.

The authorities have revealed that the new infrastructure programme calls for the addition of a further 1,500km of highways.     Upgrade work to five sections of the D1 highway in the Czech Republic is due to commence in spring 2012. The first sections to be rebuilt are from are Sternov-Psare, Loket-Horice, Vetrny Jenikov-Jihlava, Lhotka-Velka Bites and Velka Bites-Devet Krizu. The Transport Ministry prioritised these sections for repair, although full permission has yet to be given before the work can commence.

    Infrastructure in Indonesia looks set to benefit from a series of a key highway and bridge projects, now gathering momentum. The country’s State Enterprises Ministry has announced plans for new road building worth a colossal US$25.66 billion. Work on a key highway stretch will commence in September 2014. This highway will connect provinces across the island of Sumatra, with the project looking set to be handled by the state-run firm Hutama Karya.     In Peru the Brazilian contractor Odebrecht is now setting out plans for a US$500 million package of works to upgrade the prime road network around capital Lima. In all some 144km of roads will be improved under the terms of the deal, which Odebrtecht was recently awarded by the Peruvian authorities. Key links seeing upgrades will be the Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sur and Ramiro Priale highways. The work is planned for the 2013-2015 period.
