244 Intertraffic Amsterdam, the trade event for infrastructure, ITS traffic management, safety and parking strong success for its 22nd edition, run from the 25th to 28th March. Close to 800 exhibitors from 43 countries presented their products and services to a worldwide audience of nearly 27,000 traffic professionals. The Smart Mobility Centre programme was more comprehensive than ever with over 100 free-to-attend activities. IntertrafficLive was introduced, a live stream programme straight from the exhibition floor to serve those unable to make it to Amsterdam. Named overall winner of the seventh Intertraffic Innovation Award was HR Groep Traffic & Signing for its MB Track & Trace solution. The figures show a significant growth in international attendance. Over four days a grand total of 26,819 professionals from no less than 128 countries paid a visit to the show. The international share of attendees is growing with 71% from outside the Netherlands. There is an increase noticeable of visitors with a senior management position and hence a decision making capacity. And it is worth noting that over 30% of exhibitors have already reclaimed their locations for the 2016 edition. A full visitor profile report will be published in May.

HR Groep Traffic & Signing was named as the overall winner for its MB Track & Trace solution – a ready-to-deploy bicycle parking/facility management solution. “Innovations that embrace cycling in our cities and could have subsequent positive impacts on health, congestion mitigation, reduced traffic pollution and more should be lauded,” commented jury chairman Dr Peter van der Knaap, managing director of 7450 SWOV – the Dutch National Road Safety Research Institute. The jury particularly commended the simplicity of the user interface, the intelligent technologies adopted from other areas of the parking and traffic management industries, as well as the aesthetically designed bicycle racks themselves. A trial is currently underway in Rotterdam. Other category winners were ScanaCAR’s Parking Space Classifier (category Parking), CIDRO’s Crossafe road culvert and protection system (category Safety), Trafic Technologie Systeme with its Temporary Solar Traffic Light (category ITS Traffic Management) and 3237 ArcelorMittal with Magnelis coating and high strength low alloy steel for safety barriers and poles (category Infrastructure). A Special Jury Award was announced for TNO for its role in the development of an external airbag to mitigate injury to cyclists.
