The days are getting shorter and darker as 2023 draws to a close but a light is on the horizon. INTERMAT Paris 2024 - a must-attend event for the building and civil engineering sector – runs from April 24 to 27, 2024 at Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre, only 30 minutes from Paris by rail and five minutes from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Decarbonisation will be the key topic of next year's event which have four key themes: innovation, energy, new equations and CSR - corporate social responsibility. There will be a greater emphasis on innovation. INTERMAT is highlighting five sector activities: new technologies and energies; earthmoving, demolition & transportation; roads, minerals & foundations; the buildings & concrete sector; and lifting & handling.

Attendees can expect around 1,400 exhibitors. The last event, in 2018, attracted 73,300 professionals from the construction sector – in fact, one visitor in two worked for a building contractor. Visitors came from 160 countries, including 48 countries in Africa and the Middle East. Importantly, a poll of visitors to the last event showed that eight out of 10 would attend the next event. And to spread the word about the event, there were more than 400 journalists.

Exciting demonstrations will be held each day in the ‘Demo Zone’. Equipment manufacturers will highlight their specific know-how and the way plant and equipment is being developing for even better safety and productivity. The Demo Zone programmes will include excavators, loaders, graders, screeners, crushers and machines and equipment for demolition work. Next-generation equipment, including hybrid and electric engines will also be on show.

Visitors will also get real value for their money; the World of Concrete Europe is running alongside INTERMAT! At the WoCE’s special forum a series of conferences will be devoted entirely to the concrete industry, the material and its various applications – from manufacture to application.

As with INTERMAT, decarbonisation of the concrete industry will be the focus. What are the  challenges thrown up by decarbonisation and what are the solutions and prospects for concrete materials? The sessions will be led by renowned experts and speakers from the construction, public works and masonry communities as well as members of European construction federations the major companies in the sector.

As with INTERMAT, a demo area at WoCE will host non-stop animations dedicated to the applications of concrete products, in particular decorative, polished, bush-hammered and printed concrete. Also highlighted will be methods for layering and the demonstrations of tools and equipment used by experts in the concrete sector.

The INTERMAT Innovation Awards will once again distinguish equipment, techniques, services and products that contribute to progress in the construction and materials industry. Announcement of the nominees will be made at the INTERMAT Press Days on January 18 and 19 and the winners will be announced and trophies awarded at a prestigious evening event on April 24, the first day of the show.
