A new range of reflectorless total stations has been developed by 342 Topcon. Called the ES series, the new models also feature TSshield – a Topcon Group innovation using a multi-function telematics-based communication module that locates the instrument. The ES package also gets the longest single-charge battery life in the industry – 36 hours – making it possible to work five full days without recharging.
ZF used bauma 2013 to show the next stage of development for its cPower continuously variable transmission (CVT). By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.
Italian company Ihimer has scooped a prestigious prize in the INTERMAT 2012 Innovation Awards. Its Carry 105 Electric Power eco mini dumper secured the firm, based near Siena, in Tuscany, the award for Sustainable Development. Ihimer will receive its accolade along with 11 other prize winners during a special ceremony organised by award organisers, the National Federation of Public Works of France (FNTP), to be held in Paris on during Intermat 2012 on 16 April.

Bonfiglioli has developed an electric drum drive for the new hybrid truck mixer from CIFA, the concrete equipment specialist owned by Chinese manufacturer Zoomlion. The 500 series drum drive with electric motor offers drum rotation speeds from 15-22rpm and is suited to mixer capacities from 6-14m3. The drivetrain relies on an AC induction motor to turn the drum, which gets its power from an on-board battery pack. The electric drum drive can also be powered by mains electricity – the latter can be plugged in
