Komatsu's HB215LC-1 excavator LIVE at INTERMAT 2012
2300 Komatsu said commercial availability of hybrid technology for the European construction equipment market is now available, in the guise of the Hybrid HB215LC-1 excavator.

As a second-generation hybrid excavator, the HB215LC-1 replaces the PC200-8 Hybrid with an operating weight of 21tonnes and bucket sizes ranging from 0.8-1.05m3.

The HB215LC-1 uses the Komatsu Hybrid System comprising an electric slew motor, power generator motor, capacitor and a 104kW diesel engine. The principle is that of slew energy regeneration and energy storage using the company’s Ultra Capacitor system for fast energy storage and instant power transmission. Captured energy is then put back into the electric slew motor.

Komatsu said its hybrid technology saves an average of 25% fuel with an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions when compared to its standard 21tonne excavator.
