Indonesian authorities plan major road expansion

In Indonesia major road development plans are in hand for Papua, with an expansion of the network being set out. The Ministry of Public Works has detailed its strategic programme for Papua which includes the development of 11 roads totalling 37,499km in all. The 11 national and provincial roads include new links from Timika - Potowaiburu - Enarotali; Wamena- Habema - Kenyam; Depapre - Bonggrang; Ring Road Jayapura - Sentani; Serui - Menawi - Saubeba; Nabire - Wagete - Enarotali; Timika - mapurajaya - Pomako

In Indonesia major road development plans are in hand for Papua, with an expansion of the network being set out. The Ministry of Public Works has detailed its strategic programme for Papua which includes the development of 11 roads totalling 37,499km in all. The 11 national and provincial roads include new links from Timika - Potowaiburu - Enarotali; Wamena- Habema - Kenyam; Depapre - Bonggrang; Ring Road Jayapura - Sentani; Serui - Menawi - Saubeba; Nabire - Wagete - Enarotali; Timika - mapurajaya - Pomako; Merauke - Waropko; Jayapura - Hamadi - Holtekang Batas PNG; Jayapura - Wamena - Mulia; and Jayapura - Sarmi. A budget has not been revealed at this stage and nor has the financing methid but the sums involved in such a major road development programme are likely to be significant.

Meanwhile toll road firm 1083 Jasa Marga is allocating some US$103 million to maintain its toll roads. This work will include news overlays, general road maintenance and upgrades to toll services.
