India’s road safety levels seeing improvement

New data from India shows an improving situation with regard to road safety. The country’s annual road death toll is enormous but the latest figures available show that for the first three months of 2017, there were reductions in both road fatalities and road crashes. The figures suggest a drop of 7% in both road deaths and road crashes. Karnataka showed particular success in road death and crash reduction, with Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu also seeing significant improvements in road

New data from India shows an improving situation with regard to road safety. The country’s annual road death toll is enormous but the latest figures available show that for the first three months of 2017, there were reductions in both road fatalities and road crashes. The figures suggest a drop of 7% in both road deaths and road crashes.     The US is making only slow progress with regard to road safety. During 2017 there were 40,100 road deaths, according to the National Safety Council. This is the second year that deaths from motor vehicle crashes have topped 40,000. There has been a slight improvement for 2017 from 2016 with road deaths dropping 1%. However 2016 was a poor year for road safety, with a 6% gain in road deaths over 2015. This means that the figures for 2017 represent a 6% increase in road deaths from two years before in 2015.

  • Denmark is seeing major gains in road safety

    Continued improvements in road safety are being seen in Denmark. The latest official data from the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) reveals a continued drop in fatal accidents. In July 2012 Denmark saw four fatalities on the country’s roads, the same figure as seen in July in the previous years. This is the lowest figure since the statistics were first recorded in 1985.
