The National Highways Authority India (NHAI) plans to finance its road projects by issuing bonds. This is intended to raise US$1.91 billion over the next month. The plan has been drawn up by the Ministry of Highways and Road Transport. India’s Government intends to invest $17 billion over the next five years on public-private partnership road projects starting from 2012/2013. The government will give out 7,300km of road projects annually in the next three years. NHAI will use the fund raised to finance build, operate and transfer (BOT) highway projects.
