India pushes ahead with highway upgrades

Two major highway projects are now going ahead in India. A contract worth some US$383 million is now being carried out by Era Infra Engineering Limited (EIEL) through its partnership with OJSC-SIBMOST in Uttar Pradesh.

Two major highway projects are now going ahead in India. A contract worth some US$383 million is now being carried out by 3207 Era Infra Engineering Limited (EIEL) through its partnership with OJSC-SIBMOST in Uttar Pradesh. This was awarded by the 292 National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. The project involves widening the link to two lanes of traffic in either direction. The contract is to upgrade a section of NH-24 from Bareilly-Sitapur between km 262 and 413 as part of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase III. Meanwhile a $169 million project is underway to widen a 61.8km section of Jorabat-Barapani section of NH-40 into four lanes. The construction period is three years with a concession period of 20 years and the project is on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The NH-40 is the main highway connecting Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, with Guhawati.
