Indeco’s new IDC 70 jaw attachment for demolition of reinforced concrete structures uses new fast-change system

Indeco’s new heavy-weight demolition jaw, the IDC 70

Indeco has launched a heavy-weight jaw attachment, the IDC 70. Designed for demolition of reinforced concrete structures, the jaw can be fitted on excavators of 70 tonnes and above.

Indeco spent six months developing the jaw, working to optimise its weight-to-power ratio and adding features designed to reduce maintenance and increase productivity. Weighing in at 7200kg, 3.35m long and 0.65m wide, the IDC 70 has a maximum jaw opening of 1.8m, which the Italian manufacturer says beats rival products in the same class.

The jaw, which rotates hydraulically through 360 degrees, has a swivel mechanism that is completely sealed to protect it from dust. To increase productivity, the design of the IDC 70 includes a regeneration valve which opens the jaw within 3-to-4 seconds and closes it in 5-to-7 seconds under no-load conditions, says Indeco.

The IDC 70 also benefits from Indeco’s fast-change teeth system, Indecobite. With a patent pending, the Indecobite system has been designed to make maintenance easier and to minimise downtime.

Indeco now plans to add further models. “This is the first of a new line,” said Indeco global sales and marketing manager Michele Vitulano. “We are planning to introduce another three sizes … we will grow this family of products.”

The first IDC 70 is due to start work on a project in Australia for the City Circle Group.

Caterpillar’s hybrid excavator represents evolutionary rather than revolutionary technology - Mike Woof reports One of the key things to understand about Caterpillar’s hybrid excavator is that its fuel savings come not from a single technology, but from a range of features that have been integrated together. The sophisticated engine works hand in hand with the advanced hydraulics, with electronics governing the whole operation and optimising efficiency. And while none of these technologies is new in it
